It’s in a spectacular setting, with music and illuminations, that we celebrated the millennium of the abbey church! Indeed, on Friday, June 23, 2023, Mont Saint-Michel was covered in lights. From its creation until now, we were able to follow the evolution of the Wonder in its chronology. With green, sometimes purple or blue lights, the organizers made these moments impressive, as stated by Thomas Velter, the director of the Epic: ‘It’s a technical and spectacular feat. The entire history of the Mont was evoked through the details of the projection.’ The music accompanying the illuminations lasted until 1 a.m., before the Mont went dark and the spectators departed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n

The curious, who came in large numbers (more than 15,000 people according to parking attendance figures), were amazed and applauded at each passage. The 400 drones deployed during the first and last passage highlighted the Mont Saint-Michel and its bay. The organizers took on the challenge of combining the history of the Mont with modernity through the use of drones, and it was a successful endeavor as Jessica Guichard asserts: ‘We wanted to create an unforgettable moment on a monument that inspires creativity, and we emphasized the architecture of the monument with a lot of details and lights.’ Dubbed ‘the Millennium Solstice,’ this spectacle will leave an incredible memory in the minds of the public and in the history of Mont Saint-Michel.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n

The best locations to observe this sound and light show were the dam and at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel. The restaurants La Salicorne, Le Pr\u00e9 Sal\u00e9, and L\u2019Hippocampe were ready to welcome you in a warm atmosphere just before the drones took off. It was also possible to stay just a few steps from Mont Saint-Michel at the Hotel Mercure, the Hotel Vert, Le Relais du Roy, or the Auberge de la Baie. The shuttles, which dropped you off at the foot of the Wonder and brought you back to the dam, also allowed us to access the illuminations in the best possible conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
